Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to visit this website and find out more about the role of Assistant Director, Finance & Estates here at Stevenage Borough Council.

I believe that this is a highly attractive career opportunity for someone who is keen to develop their credentials as a strategic financial leader in a local authority that has incredibly ambitious plans for the future, and a number of high-profile projects underway that require high quality operational and strategic financial support.

And with oversight of our estates and commercial assets also falling within this role’s remit, it really does present an ideal opportunity to expand your professional remit.

It’s an exciting time to join the Stevenage team. Major town centre regeneration is building momentum, capitalising on our successful Towns Fund bid; and with an approved Local Plan in place there is a clear sense of direction and purpose within the borough. This is translating into visible outcomes in the borough, not least the 220 council houses built in the last year. And we continue to review and evaluate how we do things, evaluating new opportunities and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement in all that we do. We never stand still.

I look forward to working closely with whoever takes on this role. I’m keen that the appointed candidate is someone who wants to take the initiative to step forward and be accountable; and to develop their leadership and technical skills in an organisation that is serious about professional development. It’s important that you have a really good grasp on the fundamentals of the role – ensuring that sound financial management principles and practice underpins what we do.
